The oboe, like the bassoon, is most often made of high quality wood, such as Grenadilla or rosewood, sometimes made of plastic, and its scale ranges from b to g3, although with the right skills it is possible to produce sounds up to c4. The instrument is distinguished by its singing, melancholy sound, which works best in solo parts, especially the cantilena ones. It also works perfectly well in film music.
