Harpsichords
In addition to wind instruments, our music store provides customers with access to the highest quality Fred Bettenhausen and Neupert harpsichords.
The harpsichord is a plucked string instrument that belongs to the citron family. The harpsichord is equipped with a keyboard that sets in motion special "feathers" jerking strings. However, there is no possibility of dynamic differentiation, which can be found for example while playing the piano. Its history dates back to the fifteenth century, and its popularity lasted until the end of the eighteenth century, when it was replaced by the mentioned piano. Nevertheless, the renaissance of the harpsichord took place thanks to the Polish harpsichordist Wanda Lewandowska, and is nowadays used mainly by ensembles specializing in contemporary interpretation and playing of early music. The intricate performance and unique sound make the price you have to pay for it not seem excessive. Our offer includes constructions referring to the most popular instruments from the 17th and 18th century, one and two manuals.
